How AA Split Works

How Splitting Works

Travel Keeper uses a "record first, settle later" approach. During the trip, anyone can log expenses they paid for, and Travel Keeper automatically tracks who paid what.

Recording the Payer

When logging an expense, choose "Who paid":

  • I paid — Default option, logs an expense you covered
  • Someone else paid — If someone else covered your expense, you can still log it

Split Methods

Travel Keeper supports multiple split methods:

  • Equal Split — Divided equally among all members (most common)
  • Custom Ratio — Split by custom percentages
  • Fixed Amount — A specific person pays a fixed amount
  • No Split — Log the expense without splitting

Choose the split method when logging, or edit it later.

Live Balance

The top of the ledger page shows each person's "current balance":

  • Positive = You owe money
  • Negative = Someone owes you
  • Updates in real-time with each expense

💡 Tip: Not every expense needs to be split equally. For example, choose "Equal Split" for taxis but "No Split" for personal shopping.
